Thread: buying and selling error

A minimum post count (maybe 30 or 50???) plus at least a months membership for buying and selling cloth would be good. Posts in response to cloth selling and introductions not to be counted if that is possible. It is all too easy to run down the introductions thread and say hello to everyone even if their intro was 6 months ago or reply in cloth selling threads just to boost post counts. Active community members are what we need to help liven up the boards so if people had to make an effort to sell here then hopefully they will find we are quite lovely and stay

I don't mind people using it just for buying and selling; that's how I use CNT and it gives us more to buy! I consider it my personal responsibility to check how long somebody has been a member and whether they're just using it for selling (and it's not exactly hard to check, with that info displayed in the bit next to the username), and then I act accordingly e.g. if it's somebody new, I would never send gifted payment and I would ask for extra photos etc. I wouldn't like the rules to be too strict because I could miss out on some good deals or people who might want to buy from me. It's easy enough to protect yourself using Paypal properly if you're at all unsure. If there were any rules for new members, I'd prefer that they could still buy and sell but that maybe they can't ask for gifted payment, they have to send via recorded delivery and also they have to pay the extra to receive recorded delivery too.

The restriction is only on selling, anyone can view & buy... as a seller can't be ripped off by a buyer so long as they're going by the book (sending recorded, and not accepting "gifted" payments unless they definitely trust the buyer!) but buyers are at more risk, so to sell you need to be an established member.
@SuperYumi (or anyone else with < 250 posts), can you check if you can start a new thread in the buying & selling section? It shouldn't let you start a new thread, but it should let you view and reply to threads (as it's stated in the buy/sell rules not to try to sell anything via someone else's thread).
Regarding seller ratings, I've been meaning to look into a rating system for it, possibly with a score (or percentage rating) that would show up under the rep gems (but only in the buy/sell sections)... and in the long run I might try to implement a more robust overall system for buying and selling. A rating system and display itself is fairly easy to set up - however, where it becomes difficult is ensuring that only the buyer can rate the seller... as the informal way the system works right now means that there's no "technical" information in the system about who has bought an item.

maybe for the time being we could have a sticky thread where people could post maybe positive buyers ones that are reliable etc! but i don't know it that would be a fair way???? for those who have never sold before etc and i suppose if in doubt never gift?!

One system I've seen that I really like is having a subforum for feedback and a separate thread started for every buyer/seller. Anyone who buys from or sells to that person can then add a post, something along the lines of "bought a nappy from ---, lovely seller, would buy from again", etc. Then people can either link to their feedback thread in their signature or people can just look for the relevant thread in the subforum.

@Elle @Rambo - instead of starting a thread to keep track, could we not use people's profile pages (as they're under-used?) to put feedback on? People who buy or sell could just click on the profile of the person and read about them as a buyer or seller? It'd be easy, a way to promote page usage on the site (and those landing on the site to "see what it's like" would be more likely to stick around for longer to see how it works... Just a thought (I'm very tired so not explaining my idea very well but I can elaborate if need be)

A buy/sell page on FB I'm part of has a simple thread for feedback. it's done on a x/5 rating, with a quick comment,
so,
Seller: @Rach
Item: WC Workhorse
Rating: 5/5
Comment: Easy sale, nappy arrived quickly and as described. Would use again.
It works great and in the event of negative feedback, all thats asked is that you've tried to resolve the issue with the buyer/seller first, and contacted admin prior to leaving neg feedback.
