you cant give a near 4 month old gravy or jam
gravy has wheat in it for starts and introuducing things like wheat too early can cause allergies plus there digestive systems arnt mature enough yet to process most the additaves and general stuff in gravy or jam! you need to read up about it look on some of the threads in BLW and TW

i started to wean my kids at about 4 months, they was and are fine, they always had little bits of food to try ( jam, gravy, mash, porridge etc) I see no problem with it. They wouldn't make baby food for 4 months + if you couldn't use it at that age.
Its YOUR child not any body else's. And YOUR decision to make. You are bound to get sarcastic comments due to saying you gave ur baby a little something before the age they agree with. Ignore it.
Also :- if u did everything by these stupid parenting books then u would never progress to the next stage etc. Most of the writers probably haven't had any children themselves.Last edited by brummylou; 02-07-2010 at 02:41 PM. Reason: also

Brummylou, you have the right to make your own decisions but please present a balanced argument.
I certainly wouldn't recommend weaning before 6 months and I would start with something a little healthier. Many writing books on the subject are highly qualified individuals with a wealth of experience. Dr Sears, for example, has 6 children and a PhD in paediatrics as does his wife and, now, his children.

Yeah, I would have to agree with the majority, jam and gravy aren't the best things to be giving any baby nevermind a 4 month old. You should really try and hold off giving solids until 6 months. Regarding the comment about babyfood for 4 months, shops sell a lot of things that are undesirable, it doesn't mean you need to use them.

Actually regarding the food for 4+ months that's simply a temporary loophole in the law that is currently being exploited by baby food companies. I would much rather listen to the WHO and various doctors whose only interest is the wellbeing of children than a baby food company whose only interest is profit making.
