Thread: Measles?

Arianna has a strange rash, she also has a temperature and her voice sounds hoarse like she has a sore throat. The hospital said it could be measles but was too soon to tell as the rash had only just came up, but within an hour of bathing her it had spread almost over her entire body. I can't seem to get the rash to show up in a picture, this is the best I can get. It looks really horrible and she's seeming like she's in pain with it and wanting to nurse constantly. I nursed her until 4.30 this morning when she finally fell asleep and she was up again at 8 though not screaming today the way she was lastnight/this morning

Have you called NHS Direct since its spread?

If give NHS direct a call, failing that I'd go back to the hospital. Hope she's ok xx

Yea it was NHS direct that sent us up to the hospital, they said it's viral could be measles but not sure yet. Just to give her calpol. I avoided giving it to her pretty much all day but she was inconsolable last night so I gave her one dose and it seemed to help but haven't given her any since. I don't want to medicate unless needed. She's still so small, only 9lb1oz at most recent weigh in.

I'd keep up with the calpol if she seems to be in discomfort. I know you don't want to medicate needlessly but it's safe to give even to squishy little ones.

It doesn't seem to be spreading any more. OH cancelled his plans for the day too so the three of us are spending all day in bed watching programmes and making sure Arianna has plenty of cuddles. She is still smiling at us though so I think she's feeling ok now.

Hope she's better soon. Arthur had a random virus last year that gave him a rash. But it's so scarey when they are so little xxx

I'm thinking it was probably just a random virus after all because her rash is clearing up pretty quickly the more she sleeps. I've just been trying to keep her cool. We went for a bath together before bed and she has only been up once through the night for about ten minutes so I think she's feeling better.
